The Tousle Curly Look

The Tousle Curly Look

The beach baby tousle look is making a comeback this year, evident by the fact that people are already seeing modifications to the classic version. The living is easy with this look. A basic routine will make it even easier. The tousle and wavy look is easy to achieve in a few steps. The variations are endless and should be explored as you discover that this sexy look is the one that easily moves into the bed head look.

Two quick looks are as follows:

  • With a slightly layered cut, fingerpick through the strands to create a soft wavy curl, and then allow them to cascade freely as though they have a mind of their own. With a slight sweep to the back, held in place with your favorite styling products, your tousle is ready for a work day. The more casual version is to fingerpick creating waves. Tug on your curls a bit to let them relax. Still soft and allowing the bounce you are carrying off the bed head look, this works beautifully.
  • The next look is more glam and of the pin up style of the 50’s. Termed the “wet look,” roll your hair in pin curls. Wait until strands are completely dry. (Allow to dry naturally to discourage frizz) Take your round wide tooth brush and create your glam waves, coming to your shoulders or below. Hair is kept close to the scalp overall. An antique hair pin, or pins, from the day is the proper accessory. Style is layered. The glam look is not so much a mismatch as it is a compliment of one detail to the other.

For a more definitive routine to care for your curly hair, taking into consideration the care and health of your hair, review the specific steps below. You may not need, or want, to adopt the entire routine; it’s designed for you to pick and choose what steps do apply to you, and maybe a step or two that you are happy to learn!

  1. Shampoo and condition your hair for your hair type. Remember your hair has a difficult time holding moisture. A deep conditioner treatment once a week is recommended. If your hair is colored, then consider using a color enhancing shampoo. This will help offset any damage as the result of coloring.
  2. Rinse your hair in cool water. This will help build volume and add to the overall shine of your hair.
  3. Towel dry with a blotting technique, as curly hair is very fragile while wet. Detangle from bottom of the strand to the root of the strand.
  4. Prep your hair with a moisturizing styling cream or mousse.
  5. If your hair is curly beyond belief, use a straightening balm to reduce frizz and straighten strands.
  6. This is when you decide to fingerpick or use a brush. If time is running out, a good brush in a medium size, made of boar bristle used carefully will speed up the process. Working from side to side, dry a section at a time using your brush to straighten your curl.
  7. Immediately roll your hair in Velcro rollers. The heat your curls are holding from the blow dryer will transfer to the curler; allow the curler to cool for 20 to 30 minutes. Hot rollers are not necessary if you will work with your blower and curls in this manner.
  8. Take the rollers out, use your natural brush to create a saucy bouncy look of your curls. If you prefer the messier look of your tousle, then pick out with your fingers.

Finish with a holding product of your choice and made for your hair. Your tousle will be admired throughout the day!
